About us
Iván García Cardenal founded Natureback in 2018. He studied Physics at McGill University and Architecture at ETSAM Madrid. Before starting the practice, he worked at Estudio Lamela on projects including Telefónica's headquarters in Madrid, the T4 Terminal at Barajas Airport, and Bernabéu's renovation, leading teams across Spain, Egypt, and the Netherlands.
Marcela Gómez Cobos heads the design team. She holds a Master's degree in Construction and Architectural Technologies from ETSAM-UPM and spent five years at El Equipo Mazzanti in Bogotá, working on large-scale mixed-use and public health projects developed in collaboration with Richard Rogers RSHP. She oversees every phase of the design process, from competition entries to site supervision.
Laura Gutiérrez Mesa is Project Director. She graduated from Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá and completed a Master's in integrated design at Anhalt university Bauhaus Dessau. Before joining Natureback, she spent six years at Taller de Arquitectura de Bogotá leading educational and institutional projects, including a finalist at the National Architecture Biennial of Colombia.
How we work
One team across all phases. Natureback acts as development manager, taking full responsibility of the process from first brief to final delivery. That means architectural design, construction management, budget preparation and monitoring, technical coordination, and full documentation control across all participants: contractors, control laboratories, designers, legal advisors.
We work with existing buildings as much as with new ones. A mismanaged asset, an underperforming structure, a building that no longer fits its use, these are the projects that interest us most. Refurbishment and conversion done well can outperform new construction in every meaningful measure.
Our rehabilitation projects are grounded in passive architecture standards: Passivhaus, Minergie, Cepheus. The results are concrete: thermal comfort, acoustic control, better indoor air quality, and real energy and economic savings for whoever uses the building.
